Stuffed Animals For Emergencies, Inc.

Chapters
Welcome to our SAFE chapters page!

Please scroll down below for a complete list of our
SAFE chapter members and SAFE contacts

This page lists all of our SAFE chapter members (which are our volunteers who collect the stuffed animals, clean them up and then donate them to organizations dealing with children in emotional or traumatic situations) and SAFE contacts which are partner nonprofits who accept donations of stuffed animals.  This page is designed to show you based on your location the closest place to donate.

If you are donating to one of our SAFE chapter members, any donations given DO NOT have to be cleaned up first (the SAFE chapter member will take care of that).  If you decide to donate to one of our SAFE contacts though, you will have to take care of cleaning the stuffed animals up yourself before donating.  Below is our guide to cleaning stuffed animals to show you how to do this:

SAFE Guide to Cleaning Stuffed Animals

Below you will find the listing alphabetically by state of our SAFE chapter members and SAFE contacts.  Please scroll down the page until you find the closest chapter member or contact to where you are located.
Each chapter member listing will give the name and e-mail for the chapter, what items they accept for donation, whether they are currently accepting and any other special comments they have regarding their chapter.  If a chapter is currently not accepting there will be a date listed as to when they will start collecting again.  A lot of chapters get bombarded by donations at once and need time to clean and distribute them and other chapters only collect certain times of the year.  Also, since we are an all volunteer group, sometimes things happen in their lives and a SAFE chapter will need to close or be put on hold.  So please take these things into consideration as to why some chapters may not be currently accepting.  You can either click on the e-mail itself or cut and paste their e-mail address into a new e-mail.  Just send them a quick note letting them know you are interested in donating.  Please give the chapter members a week to respond to your e-mail.  The chapter members are a great group of people who are volunteering their time to collect, clean and distribute these stuffed animals and other items and they, like you, have busy lives so if you could please be patient with them for at least a week that would be greatly appreciated.  If you do not hear back from them within a week, please contact Jennifer Alloy, the National Director of SAFE at help@safe-inc.org.

Also, our chapter members are entirely volunteer so they are not obligated in anyway to pick up donations.  If you and the chapter member are close in distance and are willing to meet or if the chapter member volunteers to pick up your donation, that is entirely up to them, PLEASE DO NOT EXPECT IT THOUGH.  They are volunteering their time to be a chapter member and therefore they can only do what they are comfortable with and are able to do.

If you are unable to find a SAFE chapter member or SAFE contact near you, and you are willing to mail your donation, please feel free to contact any of the SAFE chapter members listed below that are currently accepting to donate directly to them.

If you cannot find a SAFE chapter member near you and you are interested in starting a chapter in your area, please go to our
'Opening a Chapter' page for more information and to find out if it is right for you.

Thank you so much for wanting to donate!  Your donation can make a real difference in the life of a child in a stressful situation.

Types of donations SAFE Accepts

SAFE accepts new or gently used stuffed animals to be given to children in need.  If the stuffed animals are gently used they need to be in 'like new' condition and free of any tears, stains or odors.  We accept any size stuffed animal as well as many of the popular brands such as Beanie Babies, Webkins and
Build-A-Bear.  We also will accept character stuffed animals such as Mickey Mouse and stuffed animals with past years sewn in them.  We also accept blankets, books and clothing for children.  Not all chapter members accept all items though, please check their individual listing for more information.

WE DO NOT accept battery-operated stuffed animals, toys or dolls.

Thank you so much for wanting to help and sticking to these guidelines.  We appreciate your help!

Alaska

Currently we do not have a chapter in Alaska but I do have a contact there if you are willing to clean up the stuffed animals first.  This contact is a hospital so all stuffed animals donated need to be clean and must be in new or like new condition.  If you are interested in donating to this contact, please download the following two forms which will give you directions on how to clean your stuffed animals and also the address information for our contact in Alaska.  If you are not willing to clean up your donation of gently used stuffed animals please DO NOT donate to this contact.  These are going to be given to children in an emergency room and need to be as clean as possible, you can instead donate to one of our SAFE chapters below and they will take care of cleaning your stuffed animals for you.

The Toy Loan Program of Los Angeles County

SAFE is teaming up with a great nonprofit organization called the Toy Loan Program of Los Angeles County.  This is a 75-year-old program designed to teach honesty, responsibility, courtesy and integrity to children by loaning them toys and keeping records on how well they took care of the toy and if they returned the toy on time.  This program is completely free to these children and SAFE is teaming up with them to help provide these children with more toys.

If you are looking to donate your new or gently used (clean, complete and in good working order)
toys to the Toy Loan Program, please download the list below which is a list of the 54 toy loan centers available for you to donate to in the Los Angeles County area:

TLC Roster 2011

All toy donations given to the Toy Loan Program are tax deductible.  Please go to the link below for a list of toys they are currently looking for and for more information about how to obtain a receipt:

Acceptable Donated Items

If you are interested in donating stuffed animals to the Toy Loan Program, please send them to our local chapter of SAFE Dave P. (gopostal24@earthlink.net) who is providing this organization the amount of stuffed animals they are needing for their program on a monthly basis.  Please do not donate stuffed animals directly to the Toy Loan Program unless they are brand new.

SAFE is currently working with AdoptaPlatoon to get some of our stuffed animals over to our troops overseas.  They use stuffed animals to develop relationships with the local people and also it goes very far to ensure the safety of our troops
If you haven't already, please read the letter on the front page of our site which tells you a real life example of how stuffed animals have actually saved the lives of our troops.

If you are interested in donating your stuffed animals to AdoptaPlatoon for our troops, please download the attachments below which gives you exact directions on how to do so.  An important note, since donations will not be doing through any of our SAFE chapter members for this and will be going directly to AdoptaPlatoon, all donations must be cleaned up before donating.  I have also included a guide to show you how to do this.

NOTE:  Stuffed animal donations for this project need to be under 12 inches in height as our troops need to be able to carry the stuffed animals with them.

As with the other organizations we work with, if you are interested in donating ALL DONATIONS MUST BE CLEANED AND IN GREAT CONDITION.  IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DO THIS PLEASE DO NOT DONATE TO GFTW.  Please use the guide below to show you how to do this.  RESTRICTIONS:  Please DO NOT send any stuffed animals with batteries or any stuffed animal larger than 2 feet.  Please make sure stuffed animals are appropriate for children in emergency situations.
